It’s Memorial Day weekend so it’s time to put up your feet and relax, spend time with your family and friends. Maybe you have a barbecue or a beach trip planned this weekend. While I was experimenting with watermelon drinks (Pinterest has done something to me folks, I used to just eat it!) I came upon the idea of a watermelon sangria.
Since I’m missing the sangria from our beach trip to the Pig & Fish, they have divine Sangria if you’re ever in Rehoboth Beach, I decided to make my own. Of course I didn’t have one hand all the ingredients most of the recipes called for so I made mine up. I encourage you to do the same, but if you are looking for an easy and light sangria, perfect for beach-going, this is it.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle white wine,
- watermelon 'juice',
- juice from 1 lime,
- 2 ounces simple syrup or honey,
- 4 ounces triple sec,
- optional: 6 ounces vodka,
- watermelon
- strawberries
- limes
- ice
Instructions
- 'Juice' 2 cups of watermelon (cubed) by blending and straining watermelon.
- In a pitcher mix together;
- 1 bottle white wine,
- watermelon 'juice',
- juice from 1 lime,
- 2 ounces simple syrup or honey,
- 4 ounces triple sec,
- optional: 6 ounces vodka.
- and stir.
- Add small cubes or balls of watermelon, sliced strawberries, and small slices of lime to pitcher.
- Refrigerate for one-two hours.
- Serve in wine glasses with ice or frozen watermelon cubes.
For the non-drinkers in your house, especially the little ones you can sub pre-made lemonade (or homemade lemonade) for the wine and drop the triple sec for a delicious and cold summer drink.
What’s your favorite summertime drink?
