Make these mini shamrock piñatas for your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.
What you need:
- Cardboard - I used the packaging from a craft kit
- Crepe paper
- String or ribbon
- Glue, scissors, X-ACTO knife, tape
- Filling for the piñata - you could fill with small toys, confetti or candies, I chose gold chocolate coins.
Begin by sketching a shamrock on a sheet of paper to use as a template. Trace it onto the cardboard and cut it out, you will need two of these. Cut strips of cardboard about 1.5 inches wide, don’t be too concerned about the length, because you will trim them to size later.
Bend the cardboard strips and using tape attach them to one of the shamrock cut-outs.
Once you have wound it all the way around the edge of one shamrock, place the other shamrock cut-out on top and tape that on too.
Cut strips of crepe paper, and then cut a fringe into each strip. Layer them starting at the base of the shamrock and working your way up attaching each strip with glue. Work on the front and back first, and then the sides. Set aside to dry.
Using the X-ACTO knife cut a flap into the base of the shamrock. Thread the ribbon or string through a needle and put it through the flap, tie it on. Fill the piñata and then close the little door.
I love these little piñatas because they can be re-used and kids will love pulling the string to release their treasures.
