I have a love of old school kitchen equipment. Iron skillets, glass bakeware and storage containers, and not a microwave in sight. While I also profess my love for more modern kitchen appliances like refrigerators, there’s something about cooking and baking in old school traditions that makes sense to me.
When Pyrex®, a World Kitchen brand, asked me to help celebrate their 100th anniversary by sharing a recipe, some info about their amazing products, and a sweepstakes you can enter I jumped at the chance.
However, most of the recipes I remember fondly are chock full of sugar, gluten, and dairy-things I avoid. To come up with my own unique spin on an old recipe for today’s post was challenging, but in the very best way. I love finding healthier ways to prepare foods and this banana chocolate pie is no exception! It’s reminiscent of a vanilla wafer chocolate banana custard pie I remember, but with a much healthier twist. The best part? No baking required.
Pyrex Turns 100!
Before we get to the recipe though, let’s talk a bit about Pyrex. Pyrex was started in 1915 to provide oven-safe glassware for home kitchens. They’ve been around for 100 years, and despite the many changes in the last century Pyrex is still made in America today!
Personally I’m a huge fan of Pyrex. Glass containers in the kitchen just can’t be beat. Not only are they long-lasting, but they are versatile, too. I use them to cook in, store leftovers, in the pantry, and to bake. We have a stable of kitchen tools we bought many years ago when we first stocked our own kitchen. The basics like measuring cups, glass storage containers, pie pans, and have been with us through many kitchens and too many dishes to count! Our Pyrex measuring cups and storage containers have been with us through everyday meals, celebrations, anniversaries, birthdays, and so much more.
Pyrex 100th Anniversary Collection
Pyrex has an amazing collection of items for their anniversary. The first collection, “Centennial,” will be released in red, white, and blue, while the second collection, “Vintage Future,” features red, teal, and chartreuse products. There will also be a 100th anniversary pie plate, as well as 3 qt. portable bags (these are the BEST!). Both the “Centennial” and “Vintage Future” designs will be featured on 4-cup storage containers and Pyrex’s classic 4-cup, 2-cup, and 1-cup measuring cups.
Here’s a peek at the products, available now at World Kitchen’s website.
