Last month we had the amazing opportunity to attend Disney Social Media Moms Celebration as a guest of Disney. We experienced some amazing perks, and though we paid for a fee for the conference, Disney provided us with a once in a lifetime VIP experience.
The Disney Social Media Moms Celebration was held at DisneyWorld over the course of four days, and we were fortunate enough to be invited to attend. I brought along my family, and we extended our vacation beyond the conference to experience a once in a lifetime vacation. I shared a bit about Day One here using Disney’s new Story app. The Story app was introduced at the conference, and is not just a social media sharing tool, but allows you to stitch together photos, videos, and text to create a story based on either special occasions or those everyday moments that are so special as well.
Friday was a conference day for attendees. We spent an amazing day learning and getting inspired by a variety of speakers including Disney cast members, amazing speakers, and hosted by Rene Syler. Rene (Good Enough Mother) was a great hostess sharing stories and wisdom she collected from attendees with her own advice. My favorite bit of advice she shared, “No one will believe in you as much as you do.” Wise words.
Highlights of Disney Social Media Moms Celebration (Conference Day)
Improvements and Renovations at DisneyWorld
The conference started with an introduction to new additions coming to DisneyWorld from President George A. Kalogridis including the upcoming renovation and expansion of Downtown Disney into Disney Springs with construction already started the new shopping, dining, and entertainment areas will be complete in phases through 2016. There is so much to say about the conference, that I couldn’t possible fit it all in, so I’m sharing my highlights, and the official Disney video so you can see what it was like. I will also be sharing some of the Disney magic over over the next month including a review of Monsters University which we got to screen early.
Disney embracing technology with new FastPass+ and MagicBand
FastPass+ will allow you to book reservations at shows, favorite attractions, dining and other experiences all in one place. The best part? You can change it on the go via your smartphone. This will allow you to explore the parks at your own pace. The MagicBand is a wrist band that will act as your room key, ticket, access to FastPass+, PhotoPass card, and payment account. I love how simple this will make things!
Healthy Living Initiative
Disney continues an increased focus on encouraging families to lead healthier lifestyles. You will now find menu options throughout the parks that have a Mickey check symbol (pictured above). These meal items for adult and kids are healthier alternatives that limit calories, saturated fat, sodium, and sugar.
Disney Infinity
Of the many products we learned about, saw, and received was a presentation about Disney Infinity, a action packed video game where you can introduce characters to your worlds and play with characters like Mr. Incredible and Mike Wazowski. Even more fun? Kids can create their own video games! This is sure to be a hot toy and game this year, and will appeal to both boys and girls with a variety of Disney characters.
Disney’s Highlight Reel from Disney Social Media Moms Celebration
You may see me in this video. 😉 It’s a great look at what goes on at the conference and how much magic we experienced!
