Back to school is this week for our family, and on top of that we’re leaving for a family conference on Thursday. It’s set to be a whirlwind week (and month if I’m honest). But before we get to back to school, I have some great things to share with you this week.

10 Thing you Can Do To Avoid Raising a ‘Mean Girl‘
While I think the phrase ‘mean girl’ is problematic this post outlines some ways in which parents will be able to help raise girls to be empathetic, a good friend, and how to advocate for herself and others.
“We’ve all heard of this saying – treat others as you like to be treated. Whenever I see my girls doing something unacceptable, I ask them two questions – How do you think it made Janice feel when you did that? How would you feel if someone did that to you?”

What Depression Feels Like
Lisa wrote this amazing post about what depression feels like. If you have tweens and teens it’s especially important to be aware the signs of depression as it is incredibly common among middle and high school kids.
“It’s 3pm on a Tuesday. I’ve cried 3 times. I rarely cry. I’ve screamed in my head many more than that – so loud, my head aches. And I’ve thought about suicide. About disappearing. Too many times to count.”

Fargo
Oh my gosh. This series aired awhile back, but since we cut the cable I have been playing catchup on newer shows. The series is available on Hulu with a subscription (you can get a free trial if you don’t subscribe) and is heckuva a show. It isn’t the same story as the ’90s film Fargo, but has some nods to it throughout. The way it was filmed is gorgeous, and the performances are top-notch. Despite juggling a ton of storylines the series is a tightly knit world of mayhem and murder with the folksy undertones that made the film such a hit.
