In just a few short days Santa Claus will be coming to town. My kids get up early to see what goodies the jolly old man left behind on Christmas morning, and I know they aren’t alone. To get them to bed early on Christmas Eve we often rely on a little help from NORAD. Long ago we started the tradition of tracking Santa as he visits children all over the world. We follow along with Santa’s whereabouts all day on Christmas Eve!
Kids can call 1-877-HI-NORAD or head to NORADSanta.org to track Santa all day on December 24th! Nearly 1,250 volunteers answer calls/emails from curious children inquiring about Santa’s whereabouts at the call center.
Read all about how NORAD’s Santa tracker got started in 1955 with a misprint in an advertisement, a red phone, and a Colonel who played along after his first phone call from a child inquiring ‘Is this Santa?’
This year, using NORAD’s Santa Tracker will also help connect deployed military members with their loved ones thanks to Avaya’s “Santa Cause.” Each time Santa is tracked via 1-877-HI-NORAD (1 877 446-6723) starting at 6 a.m. EST on 12/24/2014 or www.noradsanta.org, talk time will be donated to the military nonprofit Cell Phones For Soldiers, up to 840,000 minutes!
As Avaya helps connect children with Santa, it’s a good reminder that many military members won’t be spending the holidays with their loved ones. For 10 years, the nonprofit that was started by a 12 and 13 year old brother and sister, has provided more than 210,000,000 minutes of free talk time to U.S. servicemen and women stationed all around the world.
Santa fans can also follow his travels online and through social media at NORAD’s website, on Facebook, on twitter, and YouTube.
Make sure you call or stop by and check to see where Santa is visiting all Christmas Eve Day and help give soldiers overseas a very special holiday gift-time to talk to love ones at home.
